Ayurvedic Back Pain Remedies: RasnaSaptakam Kashayam – Highly effective in Low Back Pain, Sciatica, Sacro-Iliac joint pain

RasnaSaptakam Kashayam, also available as RasnaSaptakam Kwatham is a simple Ayurvedic formulation in a decoction form which is highly effective in the treatment of Low Back Pain, Sciatica and Sacro-Iliac joint disease / pain.

Ingredients:

RasnaSaptakam Kashayam, as the name itself indicates, has 7 ingredients led by its main ingredient Rasna.

The ingredients of RasnaSaptakam Kashayam are as below said:

  • Rasna: Pluchea Lanceolata
  • Guduchi: Tinospora cordifolia
  • Aragwadha: Cassia Fistula
  • Devadaru: Cedrus deodara
  • Gokshra: Tribulus Terrestris
  • Erandamoola: The root of Ricinus Communis
  • Punarnava: Boerhaavia diffusa

RasnaSaptaka Kashayam is a brilliantly formulated compound found in the texts of Ayurveda. It is a perfect combination and ranks much beyond just being a painkiller.

It has in it, potential herbs which has the below said properties:

  • Shotahara/Vedanahara: Analgesic & Anti-inflammatory (Rasna, Eranda, Punarnava),
  • Amahara: Detoxificants (Rasna, Guduchi, Aragwadha & Devadaru),
  • Agni Deepana: Metabolizers (Guduchi and Gokshura),
  • Rasyana: Immune Modulators & Tissue Rejuventors (Guduchi and Punarnava)
  • Balakaraka: Strengtheners(Guduchi, Gokshura)
  • Mootrala: Diuretics (Gokshura) Nutrition (Gokshura)
  • Mrudu rechaka: Laxative (Aragwadha)
  • Sroto vibandhahara: Channel block cleansers (Devadaru)
  • Poshana: Nutrition (Gokshura)

The combined effect of the compound successfully alleviates pain, inflammation & stiffness present in Back pain, Sciatica, Arthritis of joints and soft tissues in the lower limbs, Sciatica, Rheumatoid Arthritis and Sacro-iliac pain.

Dose (Adult):

Kasayam (Liquid): 10 to 15 ml diluted with 30 to 45 ml of warm water 2-3 times a day.

Kashayam tablets: 2-3 tablets twice or thrice a day, with warm water.

A pinch of powder of dry ginger is added and mixed in the Kashayam before consumption.

Note: Dosage varies with age

When to take?:  At least ½ hour to ¾ hour before food or at 6am and 6pm as recommended by the physician.

Note: The dose and the number of times a Kashayam or Kashayam Tablet to be taken depends on the nature and type of backpain, Prakriti (Constitution of the patient) and many other factors. Your doctor will be the right person to take a call on the quality and quantity of the medicine.

  • Relieves Back Pains of varied aetiology and relieves associated complaints like stiffness etc.
  • Sacro-Iliac joint disease and Lumbo-Sacral pain, Coccygeal pain
  • Sciatica
  • Pain in flanks, hip, pelvis and hip joint

  • Pain in legs (calf)

9 Ways of dealing with a Confused Stomach

This is in continuation of my article “What Type of Stomach do you have?”

 Let us brush up and see what a CONFUSED STOMACH is before going to ways of dealing with it…

Confused Stomach: This stomach is very moody. It sometimes digests the food very well and sometimes we are put at the extremity by facing serious indigestion and related problems. This happens in a person who is by nature windy (Vata or Vayu Prakriti / Physical Constitution @ birth). Basically, these people are thin built, quick, hurried, anxious and confused in their activities and mannerisms and are very erratic with their food schedules.

Such people are bound to get Neurological diseases, Diseases related to bones and joints, skin, pelvic organs, ear, breathing and circulation, insomnia (sleeplessnessconstipation & are prone to early degenerative changes / diseases like osteoarthritis, osteoporosis, osteopenia etc. Pains including Headache, Back pain, Neck pain, Muscle and soft tissue pains etc.

9 Ways of dealing with a Confused Stomach {What should people having a confused stomach do?}

  1. These people can train themselves to be more disciplined and responsible in their approach towards food and lifestyle.
  2. They need to get the better of their nerves by getting into de-stressing activities like Yoga, meditation etc
  3. They should avoid cold food and cold environment
  4. They should avoid dry, stale, carried over foods, junks and untimely eating
  5. They should avoid Hot(pungent foods like chillies etc.) and spicy foods, Bitter and Astringent foods
  6. Their food should be easily digestible, in small quantities, hot and fresh and predominant with sweet, sour and salt tastes. Water intake should be adequate.
  7. Their stomach and gut will be dry by nature. Ghee and oil should be an essential part of the diet.
  8. They should monitor the quality and quantity of sleep (should not keep awaken at nights)
  9. They should see that they do not get into constipation and if they are suffering from constipation, they should get rid of it

World Arthritis Day – War against pain

Pain is the most disgusting experience which has been haunting the mankind since ages unknown..may be it a physical or mental or emotional or a combination of all. Arthritis means “Painful inflammation and stiffness of the joints” The pain may extend on to the muscles and the soft tissues and may gradually encroach multiple organs depending on the type of manifestation of arthritis.

The scientifically advancing and technologically sound world has been constantly working to free the mankind from the clutches of this unwanted sensation..but still the disease takes a lead every time.

On the occasion of the WORLD ARTHRITIS DAY (WAD) we need to ledge to declare a stronger war on Arthritis.

 

Ayurveda stresses the effective combination, coordination and integrated approach of 4 essential limbs of treatment for an effective healing, namely Vaidya(a competent doctor), Dravya(very effective medicine), Upastha(selfless caretakers or an effective hospital and at home management) and Rogi(a humble sincere and polite patient). The same approach in the form of a team work might just help us to tackle this epidemic. We need to stress more on educating people about the disease and the importance of early reporting, the gross difference between prevention and treating an established condition. At the same time the common man too should cooperate within the system and participate in the spread of awareness and basic information to their counterparts.

Since Arthritis is more often a lifestyle disorder..the prevention is much in our hands before the doctor becomes mandatory in the equation. Corrections in lifestyle and food, time for exercise and to maintain fitness, Keeping ourselves and others updated about the disease and its consequences might save many bucks spent on destroying this ailment
